Energy Hub: Hardware and Firmware Engineer (Contract / Short-term (V0 & V1 pilots))

This senior-level contract role requires a Hardware and Firmware Engineer with a minimum of five years' experience specializing in embedded systems development, particularly using platforms such as ESP32 and STM32 or similar microcontrollers. The engineer will focus on prototyping and validating early-stage portable power system pilots (V0 and V1), involving hands-on modification, integration, and testing rather than mass manufacturing. Key technical competencies include deep familiarity with battery management systems (BMS), inverters, and power electronics, alongside practical experience working directly with hardware rather than simulations. The role demands expertise in integrating cellular communication modules, specifically GSM and LTE with SIM-based tracking capabilities, as well as GPS or other location telemetry systems. Additional responsibilities include configuring external control relays and shutdown mechanisms, validating AC/DC output limits, overload and low-battery shutdown behaviors, and ensuring safe charging protocols via AC adapters and solar-assisted kiosks. Candidates should demonstrate strong debugging skills, particularly for remote troubleshooting in ambiguous, early-stage environments. Preferred qualifications include experience with LiFePO₄ battery systems, solar power integration with MPPT controllers, and prior deployment of IoT devices in field conditions, especially within emerging markets. A bachelor's degree is required, with a preference for Europe-based applicants.
