Role Summary

• 3-year PhD position at Nordcee, Department of Biology, University of Southern Denmark
• Start date: January 1st, 2026
• Research focus: Dynamics of organic carbon recycling in the modern carbon cycle
• Work conducted within the Villum Foundation-funded center EnBiE (Center for Environmental and Biological Evolution) with the Nordcee group

Responsibilities

• Use RAMAN spectroscopy to study petrographic carbon recycling in modern sediments, rivers, and experimental systems
• Conduct flume experiments to investigate sorting and cycling of petrographic carbon
• Analyze modern marine sediments to assess the quantitative importance of petrographic carbon recycling
• Explore weathering environments to determine rates of petrographic carbon oxidation on land

Requirements

• Ambitious candidate with an MSc degree in sedimentology, geochemistry, or geobiology
• Degrees in related environmental sciences will also be considered
