Role Summary

• 3-year postdoctoral research fellowship at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Southern Denmark (Odense)
• Focus on models of quantum programming languages
• Interdisciplinary position: part of ACP (Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Programming Languages), TAAG (Topology, Algebra, Analysis and Geometry), and the Centre for Quantum Mathematics
• Embedded in the Sapere Aude: DFF-Research Leader project “FunQ: Quantum Programming Beyond the Circuit Model” led by Assoc. Prof. Robin Kaarsgaard
• Start date: Winter 2026 (flexible)

Responsibilities

• Conduct research on new abstractions, models, and programming languages for quantum programming
• Investigate mathematical foundations and realisation of a novel high-level quantum programming language
• Collaborate with the project team and work directly with Assoc. Prof. Robin Kaarsgaard

Requirements

• Highly motivated candidates interested in models of quantum programming languages
• PhD (or near completion) in computer science, mathematics, physics, or a specialised degree in quantum computing or quantum information science
• Demonstrated research experience in quantum computing and at least one of:
  • Formal semantics of programming languages
  • Logic in computer science
  • Category theory
  • Formal models of quantum computing (e.g., ZX-calculus)
• Fluency in English
